S.I.P.
Stewardship Implementation Project

That Smithville, Mark Twain and Cameron lakes were removed from the 303(d) list is a testament to the efforts of everyone involved with WRASP. Monroe City and other lakes have recently been proposed for removal from the 303(d) list. However, some waters in Missouri are still on the list due to atrazine and will require that a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) be done on them. The goal of the Stewardship Implementation Plan (SIP) is the fair implementation of those TMDLs. Once again, ERC has taken the lead and presented a science-based, cooperative approach to problem-solving.

SIP Fast Facts
  • The focus of the project is on atrazine, nitrogen and phosphorous management practices and the environmental and economic impacts of implementation.
  • The project is currently active in four watersheds.
  • Field scale demonstrations are used to promote and compare management practices aimed at reducing field losses of pesticides and nutrients.
  • Ten sites covering roughly 500 acres will be maintained throughout the remainder of the project which is scheduled to conclude in June 2007.
  • Multiple locations are established in 303(d) listed watersheds and are typically 40-60 acres in size.
